About Maavarulu Airport
Maavarulu Airport is a domestic airport serving the island of Maavarulu in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, in the southern Maldives. It provides an air link between this part of the atoll and Malé, making it easier for travelers to reach nearby islands and resorts.
The airport began operations in 2020 and was developed with a 1,200-meter runway, a taxiway, an apron and a passenger terminal. Scheduled domestic flights connect Maavarulu with Velana International Airport in Malé, and the airport is operated by the Regional Airports Company.
Located on the island of Maavarulu, the airport is around 430 km from Malé and has no road connection to the capital. Passengers typically travel by domestic flight, then continue by speedboat or local transport to resorts, guesthouses and other islands in the atoll.
Although compact, the terminal provides essential passenger services for arrivals and departures, and the airport plays a useful role in supporting tourism and local travel in the southern Maldives.
