About Vaavu
Vaavu Atoll, also called Felidhu Atoll, is the smallest administrative atoll in the Maldives by population and lies in the central eastern part of the archipelago, roughly 40 miles south-east of Malé. Its five inhabited islands — Felidhoo, Fulidhoo, Thinadhoo, Keyodhoo and Rakeedhoo — combine quiet local-island life with a small number of relaxed resorts.
The atoll is best known among divers for channel dives such as Fotteyo Kandu, where currents bring sharks, rays, tuna and other pelagic fish along steep reef walls. Night dives near Alimatha, one of the country's oldest dive resorts, are famous for nurse sharks and stingrays.
Fulidhoo has become a popular, affordable local-island base with guesthouses, dive centres and a sandy harbour where stingrays and nurse sharks often gather close to shore. Felidhoo, the administrative centre, shows everyday Maldivian island life through its harbour, mosque, school and small shops.
Because Vaavu has no airport, visitors arrive by speedboat or dhoni from Malé, usually in one and a half to two hours. That remoteness keeps the reefs quieter and the pace unhurried, appealing to divers, snorkellers and travellers seeking a calmer alternative to busier resort atolls.
Business facilities are limited, but guesthouses and resorts support dive holidays, small retreats and island-hopping itineraries. Vaavu matters most as a nature and diving destination with genuine local communities and dependable boat connections to the capital.

Best Time to Visit
