About Shaanxi
Xi'an is the capital of Shaanxi Province and one of China's most historically significant cities, once known as Chang'an. As the eastern starting point of the Silk Road, it is best known for the Terracotta Army and its remarkably preserved ancient city wall, which gives the central districts a distinctive character.
More than 3,000 years of history are visible across the city, from the Ming-era city wall, Bell Tower and Drum Tower to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda and the Great Mosque. The Terracotta Army, east of the city centre, ranks among the world's most important archaeological sites and is Xi'an's defining landmark.
Neighbourhoods range from the lively Muslim Quarter, with its food streets and historic courtyards, to the museums and parks around Yanta and the modern Qujiang New District. The Shaanxi History Museum holds major collections of Tang and earlier dynasties, while cycling atop the city wall offers a popular view of the old town.
Xi'an is also a growing centre for aerospace, high-tech industries, research and higher education, and it hosts regular trade fairs and business events. Its food scene, from roujiamo and biangbiang noodles to yangrou paomo, draws visitors as much as its heritage.
For leisure travellers, Xi'an offers deep history and easy access to nearby sites such as Mount Hua. For business visitors, it combines conference facilities, transport connections and a cultural centre that make work trips memorable.
