About Uljin Airport
Uljin Airport is a small airport serving Uljin County, North Gyeongsang Province, on South Korea's east coast. It was planned in the 1990s as a regional passenger airport, but construction was suspended in 2005 after about 85 per cent of the work was completed because no airline committed to operating scheduled services.
The facility reopened in July 2010 as the Uljin Flight Training Center, and today it is used mainly for pilot training and general aviation rather than regular passenger flights. It has a single 1,800-metre asphalt runway and a passenger terminal building that has been partly converted for training use.
The airport is located in Giseong-myeon, about 25 km south of Uljin-eup, the county town. Onward travel to Uljin and nearby east coast destinations is by road, with access to National Route 7; there is no rail connection directly at the airport.
Because passenger services are limited, visitors should arrange onward transport by private transfer, taxi, chauffeur or rental car. The airport provides an ATM, and hotels and other services are available in Uljin County.
