Wonju Airport is a joint civil-military airport serving Wonju and central Gangwon Province. It shares its site with the Republic of Korea Air Force at Hoengseong Air Base and opened to civil aviation in 1997. The airport mainly supports domestic travel, with scheduled services connecting the region to Jeju.
Located in Hoengseong County, roughly 11 km from central Wonju, the airport has a single passenger terminal. Because the terminal is set about 1.5 km from the runway, passengers are transferred by shuttle bus to the aircraft stand, where a Boeing 737-900 can be parked.
Ground access includes city bus and taxi connections between the airport, Hoengseong and Wonju, making it practical for travelers continuing to central Wonju or other parts of Gangwon Province, including the Pyeongchang area.
