About Turkmenbashi International Airport
Turkmenbashi International Airport is the second largest international airport in Turkmenistan and the main air gateway to the Caspian Sea coast. It serves the city of Türkmenbaşy, the nearby Awaza tourist zone and the western Balkan Region.
The airport opened in 1959 and received a major upgrade in 2010 with a new four-storey passenger terminal capable of handling around 800 passengers per hour, together with a new control tower, VIP facilities and improved aircraft stands.
Located approximately 3 km from the city centre, the airport is reached mainly by taxi, private transfer or rental car, with a typical drive of around 5 to 10 minutes. Road connections also link the airport with Awaza and other Caspian coastal destinations.
The airport complex includes a domestic and international passenger terminal, a cargo building, a hotel, a CIP lounge, duty-free shopping and parking, providing a compact and practical entry point for travellers to western Turkmenistan.
