About Balkanabat International Airport
Balkanabat International Airport is the main international airport serving the city of Balkanabat and the Balkan Region of western Turkmenistan. Opened on 2 May 2025, it replaced the city's older airport and became one of Turkmenistan's international airports.
Located about 20 kilometres northwest of Balkanabat city centre and around 4 kilometres from the Mollakara sanatorium, the airport sits near the town of Jebel. It provides domestic and international connections and supports access to health tourism, business travel and regional destinations.
The airport complex covers 275 hectares and includes a three-story passenger terminal, a separate cargo terminal, a 3,200-metre runway and a 35-metre air traffic control tower. Its passenger terminal is designed to handle up to 100 passengers per hour, while the cargo terminal can process up to 200 tonnes per day.
The airport is connected by road via the M37 highway and R-17 road, with taxis, private transfers and rental cars providing onward travel to Balkanabat and surrounding areas. With modern passenger facilities, it functions as a gateway to the Balkan Region and nearby resort destinations.
