About Mary International Airport
Mary International Airport is the main airport serving Mary and the surrounding Mary Region in southeastern Turkmenistan. It is the country's third largest international airport and provides a compact gateway for both domestic and international travellers.
In March 2009, the airport was expanded with a new two-story terminal and upgraded from a provincial airport to an international airport. The terminal has a capacity of around 300 passengers per hour and handles check-in, security, arrivals and basic passenger services in one modern building.
The airport is located approximately 6 km northeast of central Mary, close to the Karakum Desert and within reach of ancient Merv, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It mainly connects Mary with Ashgabat and other Turkmen cities through domestic services, while also supporting international operations.
There is no direct public bus service to the airport, so most travellers continue to Mary by taxi, private transfer, chauffeur service or rental car. This makes the airport a practical starting point for visiting Mary city and the historic Merv oasis region.
