About Suwon Air Base
Suwon Air Base is a Republic of Korea Air Force installation located in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. It carries the IATA code SWU and ICAO code RKSW, but it operates as a military airfield rather than a commercial passenger airport, and scheduled airline services are not operated from the base.
The airfield was established during the Korean War as Suwon (K-13) Air Base and initially hosted United States Air Force units. Today it is home to the Republic of Korea Air Force's 10th Fighter Wing, which uses the base for air defence operations in the Seoul metropolitan area.
The base is located about 3 kilometres from central Suwon and roughly 37 kilometres south of Seoul. It sits close to Suwon Station, Seryu Station and local bus and road connections, giving the surrounding city good access to the wider capital region.
Because Suwon Air Base is an active military installation, public access is restricted and there are no regular commercial passenger terminals, check-in areas or customs facilities. Travelers heading to Suwon and the Seoul area generally arrive through Incheon International Airport or Gimpo International Airport.
