About Sliač Airport
Sliač Airport is a small international airport in central Slovakia serving the Banská Bystrica region. Located between the towns of Zvolen and Banská Bystrica and close to the spa town of Sliač, the airport is a joint civilian and military facility that has long served as a regional gateway.
The airport has roots dating back to the mid-1930s and played a notable role during the Slovak National Uprising in 1944. After reconstruction, civil operations reopened in June 2011, and a modern departure terminal with two gates opened in July 2012. Civil flights were later halted in late 2020 during reconstruction of the military section, with work on the airport complex scheduled to be completed around 2027 alongside plans to restore civil aviation.
Sliač Airport lies about 14 km south of Banská Bystrica and roughly 9 km north of Zvolen. Intercity buses stop outside the terminal, and travelers can also continue by taxi, private transfer, chauffeur service or rental car using the surrounding road network.
The compact terminal keeps the passenger experience straightforward, making the airport a convenient regional gateway for central Slovakia and nearby destinations.
