About Poprad-Tatry Airport
Poprad-Tatry Airport is the main regional airport serving Poprad and the High Tatras in northern Slovakia. Located about 5 km west of the city centre, it is one of the highest airports in Central Europe at 718 metres above sea level and acts as a convenient gateway to Slovakia's best-known mountain and ski resorts.
The airport's origins date back to 1938, when a field airfield was established west of Poprad, with regular civil services beginning in 1943. Today it operates a single compact terminal building and a 2,600-metre concrete runway that can handle short- and medium-haul aircraft.
Passenger traffic is largely seasonal, with scheduled and charter services increasing in winter for travellers heading to the High Tatras. Routes have included connections to London and Gdańsk, making the airport a direct entry point for skiers and visitors to the region.
The airport is reached by taxi in about 10 minutes from Poprad city centre, with public bus connections also available. From the terminal, onward journeys to mountain resorts such as Starý Smokovec, Tatranská Lomnica and Štrbské Pleso are short by road, and the Polish resort town of Zakopane lies roughly 70 km to the north.
