About Seoul Air Base
Seoul Air Base is a military airfield serving Seoul and the surrounding Gyeonggi region. Also known as K-16 Air Base or Seongnam Air Base, it is located in Seongnam and is used primarily for air force, government, presidential and state guest flights.
The base traces its origins to the former Yeouido air base, which was designated K-16 during the Korean War. After Yeouido Air Base closed in 1970, the garrison moved to the present Sinchon-ri site in Seongnam and was named Seoul Air Base. Today it is home to the Republic of Korea Air Force 15th Special Missions Wing and also hosts United States Army aviation units.
Situated about 18 km southeast of central Seoul, the base sits close to Seongnam city centre and within reach of Gangnam, Pangyo and other parts of the capital region by road. It has two runways and supports VVIP, government and military movements rather than scheduled commercial passenger services.
Passenger handling is concentrated in a military passenger terminal, with access restricted to authorized travelers and official delegations. The airfield also serves as a venue for the Seoul Air Show and provides a convenient arrival point for state visits and high-level government travel to South Korea.
