About Jungwon Air Base
Jungwon Air Base, also known as Chungju Airport, is a Republic of Korea Air Force airfield located in Geumga-myeon, Chungju, North Chungcheong Province. Opened in 1992, the base is home to the 19th Fighter Wing and mainly supports military flight operations rather than scheduled commercial passenger services.
Situated roughly 8 km from central Chungju, the airfield plays a military role in the central region of South Korea. Nearby Cheongju International Airport provides the main scheduled commercial air services for the area, while Jungwon Air Base focuses on air force training and operational flights.
Because the airfield does not operate public passenger terminals, access is generally by road. Local buses, taxis, private transfers and rental cars connect the base area with Chungju and surrounding towns, including Jecheon, Wonju and Danyang.
