About Jeonju Airport
Jeonju Airport is a small military airfield serving the city of Jeonju and the surrounding North Jeolla region. The site opened in 1968 as a light airfield, and Korean Air began civil passenger flights through the airport in 1970 on routes linking Seoul, Gwangju, and Jeju. After the Honam Expressway drew much of the area's travel demand away from air services, civil flights were suspended, and the airport has since operated primarily for Republic of Korea Air Force use.
Located in the Songcheon-dong area about 11 km northwest of central Jeonju, the airport is close to the city but no longer functions as a regular passenger gateway. The runway is approximately 1,460 m long, and the airfield is compact compared with major international airports in South Korea.
Travelers can reach the city centre by taxi, private transfer, or rental car, with short road journeys of roughly 15–20 minutes depending on traffic. Public transport options are limited, so pre-arranged transport is often the most practical choice.
For scheduled civil flights, the region's main airport is Gunsan Airport on the coast, while Jeonju Airport remains an important military installation and a reminder of the area's early air travel history.
