Opened on 26 May 2015, Hakkari Yüksekova Selahaddin Eyyubi Airport is the main air gateway for Hakkari province and the Yüksekova district in southeastern Turkey, close to the borders with Iraq and Iran. It gives travellers a direct domestic connection to Istanbul and Ankara in a mountainous region where road journeys can be long and challenging.
The airport operates from a single compact terminal building and a 3,200-metre runway. Turkish Airlines and AJet provide scheduled domestic services, mainly to Istanbul Airport and Ankara Esenboğa Airport, making the airport an important link for residents, business travellers and visitors to the region.
Located about 65 kilometres from Hakkari city centre and roughly 5 kilometres from Yüksekova town, the airport is reached mainly by taxi, pre-arranged private transfer or rental car. Public and group transfer options can also be arranged depending on the season and local demand.
