About Van Ferit Melen Airport
Van Ferit Melen Airport is the main airport serving Van and the wider Lake Van region of eastern Turkey. Opened in 1943, it is one of the country's oldest airports and the region's primary air gateway for domestic and limited international travel.
Located about 8 km southwest of the city centre near Edremit, the airport runs parallel to the shore of Lake Van. It has a single passenger terminal with separate domestic and international sections, together covering roughly 16,500 m².
The airport offers regular domestic flights to Ankara, Antalya, Adana, Istanbul, Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen and Izmir. Following runway and terminal improvements, it returned to full operations in December 2025.
Municipal buses, public buses, taxis, private transfers and car rental connect the airport with Van and the surrounding area. Inside, passengers can use cafés, shops, prayer rooms, baby care areas, accessible facilities and a 408-vehicle car park.
