About Yalova
Yalova is a compact, leafy coastal city on the eastern shore of the Sea of Marmara in northwestern Turkey, and the capital of the country's smallest province by area. Positioned between Istanbul and Bursa, it is best known as a thermal spa destination, a ferry gateway across the Marmara, and a relaxed alternative to the pace of the nearby metropolises. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of modern Turkey, spent time here and famously called Yalova "my city."
The area's identity is rooted in its long history. As the Byzantine settlement of Pylai and the spa centre of Pythia Therma, it served travellers crossing from Europe into Bithynia, and its hot springs have been used for centuries. The city's best-known landmark is the Yürüyen Köşk, or Walking Mansion, a waterside villa used by Atatürk that was famously moved several metres to save a plane tree; the 17 Ağustos Park and Earthquake Monument recall the devastating 1999 Marmara earthquake that reshaped the city.
Beyond the centre, the Termal district offers historic thermal baths and modern spa hotels, while the neighbouring coastal resorts of Çınarcık and Armutlu are popular for beaches, promenades and summer stays. Nature is close at hand in Karaca Arboretum, one of Turkey's first private arboretums, and at spots such as Sudüşen and Erikli waterfalls and the forested Delmece Plateau.
Yalova's economy combines agriculture, horticulture, flower production and a growing industrial base with strong thermal and seaside tourism. Frequent fast ferries link the city with Istanbul, and the nearby Osmangazi Bridge shortens road journeys toward Bursa, giving Yalova a practical role as a commuter, trade and weekend gateway.
For leisure travellers, the draw is the combination of hot springs, Marmara coastline and green hinterland; for business visitors, Yalova offers easy access to Istanbul and the eastern Marmara industrial corridor while remaining small enough to navigate quickly. The result is a destination that works equally well for a spa break, a seaside weekend or a business stopover.
