About Çiğli Air Base
Çiğli Air Base is a military airfield located in the Çiğli district of İzmir, on Turkey’s Aegean coast. It served as İzmir’s main civil airport until Adnan Menderes Airport opened in 1987, after which Çiğli continued to operate as a military aviation facility.
The base lies roughly 15 km north-west of central İzmir and is close to the districts of Çiğli and Karşıyaka. It is reached primarily by road, with taxis, private transfers and rental cars offering connections into the city and surrounding Aegean areas.
Although it is no longer a public commercial airport, Çiğli remains an active military airfield within the İzmir metropolitan region. Travelers flying to İzmir on scheduled airlines use İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport (ADB), located south of the city.
