About Bandırma Airport

Bandırma Airport (BDM) is a military and public airfield serving Bandırma, a port city in Balıkesir Province on the southern coast of the Sea of Marmara in northwestern Türkiye. It is best known as the home of the Turkish Air Force’s 6th Air Wing, and scheduled commercial passenger flights are not currently operated.

The airfield’s military history dates to the 1940s, and a civil airport was opened in 1953. Turkish Airlines served Bandırma for a period from the 1970s, but scheduled passenger operations were later discontinued as demand declined. Today, civilian use is limited mainly to private and general aviation flights coordinated with the air base.

Located about 4 km south of central Bandırma, the airport has a single asphalt runway and is reached mainly by taxi, private vehicle or rental car; there is no regular public transport line serving the airfield. Its position makes Bandırma and the surrounding Marmara coastal area the practical base for onward journeys.

Because the site remains a military installation, passenger facilities such as lounges, shops and public terminal services are not available, and access should be arranged in advance. Travelers using private aviation can continue to Bandırma city centre, the ferry port and nearby destinations by pre-arranged transfer or road.
