About Balıkesir Airport
Balıkesir Airport is a compact civil-military airport serving the city of Balıkesir in northwestern Turkey. Opened in 1998, it was closed to civil traffic in 2001 and reopened for civil use in 2007. The airport is shared with military operations and focuses primarily on domestic and regional aviation.
Located about 5–6 km southeast of the city centre in the Altıeylül district, the airport has a single passenger terminal building of approximately 6,500 m². The terminal brings check-in, security, baggage claim and waiting areas together in one compact space.
The airport is reached from Balıkesir by taxi, private car and municipal bus services, and passenger parking is available on site. The short distance to the centre makes transfers and onward travel relatively quick and straightforward.
Facilities are limited but practical, with a small café or kiosk, waiting areas and basic accessibility support. The airport functions as a convenient local entry point for the city and the wider Marmara and Aegean region.
