About Ai-Ais Airport
Ai-Ais Airport is a small airstrip in the ǁKaras Region of southern Namibia, serving the settlement of Ai-Ais and the surrounding Ai-Ais/Richtersveld Transfrontier Park. It offers access to the Ai-Ais Hot Springs and the southern end of the Fish River Canyon, one of the largest canyons in the world.
The airport operates a single dirt runway, designated 09/27, at an elevation of about 610 metres. It mainly handles private aircraft, charter flights and scenic flights over the canyon area rather than large scheduled passenger services.
Ai-Ais lies roughly 224 km southwest of Keetmanshoop, with road access along the C37. The airstrip sits close to the Ai-Ais Hot Springs resort, so arriving visitors can reach accommodation and the mineral springs within a short drive.
Airport facilities are limited because the airstrip functions mainly as an aviation access point for the park. Most passenger services such as lodging, meals and visitor information are provided at the nearby Ai-Ais Hot Springs resort and other lodges in the region.
