Hosea Kutako International Airport is the main international airport serving Windhoek and Namibia. Opened in 1965 and renamed after Namibian independence leader Hosea Kutako in 1990, it handles the majority of the country's international arrivals and departures.
Located about 45 km east of central Windhoek along the B6 highway, the airport operates a single passenger terminal and long runways capable of receiving wide-body aircraft on intercontinental routes. Domestic air services in the Windhoek area are largely handled at Eros Airport closer to the city centre.
The airport is connected to Windhoek by road through taxis, shuttle and private transfers, and car rental, with the journey typically taking around 40 to 50 minutes depending on traffic. Onward road links make it a practical starting point for travel across Namibia.
