About Hebei

Shijiazhuang is the capital of Hebei Province and a major railway and transport hub in North China. The city grew from a small settlement into an industrial and administrative centre after the arrival of the Beijing–Hankou railway, and today it serves as a gateway between Beijing, Tianjin, Shanxi and the North China Plain.

Its history and landmarks are concentrated in the city and the surrounding countryside. The Zhaozhou Bridge, completed in the Sui dynasty, is one of the world's oldest surviving stone arch bridges. Nearby Zhengding Ancient City preserves temples, pagodas and walls, including Longxing Temple with its towering bronze Guanyin statue. Xibaipo, in Pingshan County, is an important revolutionary-history site.

The city's districts include busy central areas such as Chang'an, Yuhua, Qiaoxi and Xinhua, with shops, parks, museums and business areas. The Hebei Museum is a good starting point for regional history and archaeology, while Mount Cangyan and Bailin Temple offer quieter day trips.

Shijiazhuang is also an industrial, pharmaceutical and logistics centre, with trade fairs and business activity adding to its regional role. Night markets, local Hebei-style cooking and a growing café scene give the city a practical, lived-in character.

For leisure and business travellers, Shijiazhuang offers modern transport, regional history and easy access to nearby historic towns and the Taihang Mountains.
