About Rwanda
Rwanda is a compact East African country often called the land of a thousand hills. Its tidy capital, Kigali, combines modern business districts with a calm daily rhythm, while national parks, lakes and forested highlands give the country a distinctive travel character built around nature, wildlife and culture.
Kigali is the main entry point and business hub, with the Kigali Convention Centre, museums and a growing dining scene. Outside the capital, Musanze serves as the gateway to Volcanoes National Park, Rubavu sits on the shores of Lake Kivu, and Huye is known for its museums and academic institutions.
Rwanda's landscapes range from the volcanic peaks and bamboo forests of the Virunga range to the rainforest of Nyungwe Forest National Park and the savanna and wetlands of Akagera National Park. Terraced hills, tea and coffee plantations, and the shoreline of Lake Kivu add variety across relatively short distances.
Culturally and historically, the country is known for the Kigali Genocide Memorial, traditional crafts, dance and a strong sense of national rebuilding. Rwanda has also become a regional destination for conferences, business events and high-value ecotourism, with gorilla trekking as its best-known wildlife experience.
Transport is centred on Kigali International Airport, with a well-maintained road network connecting the capital to Musanze, Rubavu, Huye and the national parks. Public buses, private transfers, chauffeur services and rental cars make it practical to travel between airports, hotels, business districts, event venues and key destinations across the country.
