Kigali International Airport (KGL)

Kigali International Airport is the main international airport serving Kigali and Rwanda as a whole, and a growing hub for travel across East and Central Africa. Located in the Kanombe area southeast of the capital, the airport handles domestic, regional and international flights and is the home base of national carrier RwandAir. The airport's main passenger terminal houses arrivals on the ground floor and departures on the upper floor, supported by a VIP terminal and a dedicated cargo facility. Recent improvements have expanded passenger and apron capacity, with modern security screening, lounges, shops, restaurants, free Wi-Fi and other passenger services available throughout the terminal. Situated about 10 km from central Kigali, the airport is reached by taxi, ride-hailing services, hotel shuttles, buses and car rental, with typical drives to the city centre taking around 20 to 30 minutes depending on traffic. Its position makes it a convenient starting point for business trips in the capital and for onward journeys to destinations such as Volcanoes National Park, Akagera and Lake Kivu. As Rwanda's principal aviation gateway, Kigali International Airport links the country to regional cities across Africa and to international destinations in Europe and the Middle East, supporting tourism, business and trade.
