About Taiz International Airport
Taiz International Airport is the main air gateway serving Taiz, one of Yemen's largest cities, and the surrounding Taiz Governorate in the country's southwestern highlands. Established in 1950 as Yemen's first airport, it moved to its current site near Al Janad and officially opened in 1970.
The airport sits about 18 km northeast of central Taiz and has historically linked the city with domestic destinations such as Sana'a and regional routes including Cairo, Jeddah and Riyadh. A modernization programme in the 1980s upgraded the airport infrastructure in cooperation with the civil aviation authority and international partners.
Its single asphalt runway and passenger terminal supported scheduled operations by Yemenia and other carriers until routes were suspended in 2015 amid the ongoing conflict, leaving the airport with reduced commercial activity.
For onward travel, the airport is reached by road from Taiz and nearby towns, with private transfers, taxis and rental vehicles providing the main connection to the city centre and surrounding areas.
