About Sóc Trăng Airport
Sóc Trăng Airport, also referred to as Sóc Trăng Airfield, is a small aviation site on the eastern edge of Sóc Trăng city in Vietnam's Mekong Delta. Originally built during the French colonial era, the airfield was later used by Japanese forces and by U.S. and Republic of Vietnam military units before being handed over in 1970 and remaining in use until 1975.
The site has a single asphalt runway designated 03/21 and measuring about 975 metres, and it retains the IATA code SOA. It does not currently handle scheduled passenger flights and has no ICAO code or regular air traffic services, so it serves primarily as a historical airfield rather than a commercial airport.
The airfield is located only a few kilometres from Sóc Trăng city centre. Because commercial service is not available at SOA, most travelers reach the area through Cần Thơ International Airport, roughly 60 km away, and continue by road along National Highway 1.
Sóc Trăng remains well connected by road to Cần Thơ, Ho Chi Minh City and Cà Mau, with buses, taxis, private transfers and rental cars available for onward travel. Visitors should plan their arrival through the nearest operating commercial airport rather than expecting scheduled flights at SOA.
