About Riyan International Airport
Riyan International Airport is the main airport serving Mukalla and the Hadhramaut Governorate on Yemen's Arabian Sea coast. It handles domestic flights and a limited number of international services, acting as the region's principal air gateway.
The airport's history dates back to around the 1930s. After closing in 2015 during the conflict in the city, it was rebuilt with support from the Emirates Red Crescent, which funded new terminals and renovation work at a cost of about AED 25 million; flights resumed in November 2019.
Located roughly 30 km east of central Mukalla, the airport is reached by road, with taxis and private transfers providing connections to the city centre, the port area and other parts of Hadhramaut.
The rebuilt facility operates with a single runway and a passenger terminal that includes departure, arrivals, transit and VIP areas, providing basic passenger services for travellers on domestic and regional flights.
