About Peenemünde Airport
Peenemünde Airport is a small airfield on the Baltic Sea coast, north of the village of Peenemünde on the island of Usedom. It opened on 1 April 1938 as part of the former Peenemünde-West Luftwaffe test centre and today serves mainly general aviation, private aircraft and leisure traffic.
The airfield has a single concrete runway of 2,400 metres and a small terminal area. It provides access to the historic Peenemünde sites, including the Historisch-Technisches Museum, and to the Baltic beach resorts of Usedom such as Zinnowitz, Heringsdorf and Ahlbeck.
Located about 3 km north of Peenemünde town centre, the airport connects to the B111 federal road. Heringsdorf is roughly 30 minutes away by road, while Stralsund is around one hour away.
Because it is a small airfield rather than a commercial hub, facilities and operating hours are limited and customs require advance coordination for non-Schengen flights. Travelers can continue by taxi, private transfer, rental car or pre-arranged transport.
