About Zweibrücken Airport

Zweibrücken Airport is a general aviation airfield serving the town of Zweibrücken and the western Palatinate region of Rhineland-Palatinate. The site was originally a military airbase used by the United States armed forces until 1991, before being developed for civil use, and a new terminal building opened in 2007.

Scheduled passenger services operated from the airport until November 2014, when commercial flights ceased. In March 2018 the airport was reclassified as a special landing site, and today it primarily serves business aviation, private flights and aviation-related activities on a 24-hour basis.

The airport lies about five kilometres southeast of Zweibrücken, close to the borders with Saarland and France. Local bus line 226 links the airport with Zweibrücken's bus station and main railway station, and onward travel by taxi, private transfer or car reaches Saarbrücken and the surrounding region in roughly 30 to 45 minutes.

Its approximately 2.7-kilometre runway and instrument landing system can accommodate a wide range of aircraft, and the airport offers customs and immigration facilities for international private flights. Short distances, free parking and ground handling support make it a practical entry point for business and general aviation travellers visiting the Palatinate, Saarland and neighbouring Alsace.
