About Mariupol International Airport

Mariupol International Airport is the main airport serving Mariupol, a major port and industrial city on the northern coast of the Sea of Azov in eastern Ukraine. The airport opened in 1931 and was long known as Zhdanov Airport before receiving international airport status in 2004.

Located about eight kilometres west of the city centre, the airport was once a regional gateway for eastern Ukraine and sits a short distance from the Sea of Azov coast. It has a single passenger terminal that served both domestic and international traffic, along with a runway and basic passenger facilities.

Regular scheduled flights have not operated at the airport since 2009, and the facility has been closed since June 2014 because of the conflict in the Donbas region. The site was also affected by fighting during the 2022 battle for Mariupol, and civilian operations have not resumed.

When the airport is operational, travellers can reach the city centre and surrounding areas by taxi, private transfer, chauffeur service or rental car, providing onward connections toward Mariupol and nearby Sea of Azov destinations.
