About Sumy Airport
Sumy Airport is a state-owned airport serving Sumy, a city in northeastern Ukraine, and the surrounding Sumy Oblast. Regular civil flights from the current airport began in 1978, and the airport was granted international status in December 2006, establishing it as a small regional gateway.
The airport operates through a single compact passenger terminal with a designed capacity of about 100 passengers per hour. The terminal handles check-in, security screening, arrivals and baggage claim in one central building, and the airfield can accommodate smaller aircraft types such as the An-24 and Yak-40.
Located about 6 km southwest of central Sumy, the airport is a short road journey from the city centre. Passengers can continue by taxi, private transfer or rental car to Sumy and nearby towns across the region.
Commercial passenger operations have been suspended in recent years, and the airport's restoration remains on hold after damage during the war. It remains a recognized regional aviation point for Sumy Oblast.
