About Volynska
Lutsk is the administrative centre of Volyn Oblast in northwestern Ukraine, set on the Styr River and one of the country's oldest cities. Its medieval castle, compact historic core and relaxed atmosphere give it a distinctive character among western Ukrainian destinations.
The city was first mentioned in 1085 and grew as a centre of the Volyn principality before passing through Lithuanian and Polish rule. Lubart's Castle, also called Lutsk Castle, remains the main symbol: its tall entrance tower and walls house the Volyn Regional History Museum and host cultural events throughout the year.
Around the castle, the Old Town leads to Lesya Ukrainka Street, the city's main pedestrian avenue lined with cafés, shops and restored buildings. Other landmarks include the Volyn Icon Museum with its notable collection of Orthodox icons, Saint Peter and Paul Cathedral and Holy Trinity Cathedral, while riverside parks along the Styr offer green spaces close to the centre.
Lutsk is also a regional centre for education, business and light industry, home to Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University and companies in automotive and food production. Its restaurants, cafés and seasonal events bring the centre to life, with a food scene built around local Volyn dishes, cheeses and honey.
For visitors, Lutsk is a walkable base for exploring Volyn, including the Shatsk lake district, historic towns and rural landscapes. It appeals to leisure travellers interested in history and culture, and to business visitors looking for a quieter, well-connected western Ukrainian city.
