Lanyu Airport (KYD)

Lanyu Airport is the only air gateway to Orchid Island, a volcanic island in Taitung County off Taiwan's southeastern coast. The airport supports the short domestic route between the island and Taitung City, serving residents and travelers visiting the island's villages, coastal scenery and Tao cultural sites.

Originally completed as a military airfield in 1964, the airport was later developed for civilian use and opened to scheduled passenger traffic in 1995. It is managed by Taiwan's Civil Aeronautics Administration and has a single runway and one compact terminal whose design incorporates local Tao motifs and plank-boat forms.

Flights are operated by Daily Air between Lanyu and Taitung, typically using 19-seat aircraft and taking around 25 minutes. Operations run in daylight under visual flight rules and can be affected by weather, so travelers often combine the flight with ferry services when planning their trip.

Once on the island, visitors continue by pre-arranged guesthouse pickups, scooter rental, limited taxis or rental vehicles to villages such as Yuren and Hongtou and the island's coastal areas. The airport's small scale keeps the journey simple, though travelers should be prepared for basic terminal facilities and limited cash services.
