Kisoro Airport (KXO)

Kisoro Airport is a small domestic airfield serving Kisoro, a town in the extreme southwestern corner of Uganda near the borders with Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. It acts as a key aviation gateway for travellers visiting Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, two of the region's main gorilla trekking destinations.

The airport sits at an elevation of about 6,200 feet and operates a single compact terminal alongside a 1,200-metre asphalt runway. A rehabilitation programme completed in 2024 improved the runway and taxiway infrastructure, supporting the domestic and charter flights that connect the area with Entebbe and other parts of Uganda.

Located roughly 3 kilometres from Kisoro town centre, the airport gives visitors a much shorter alternative to the long road journey from the capital. Domestic flights to Entebbe take around an hour and a quarter, and onward travel to lodges, trailheads and nearby towns is generally arranged by pre-booked vehicles or local taxis.

Passenger facilities at the airport are basic but functional, with a waiting area and parking available and additional accommodation, dining and other services found in Kisoro town. It remains a compact, practical entry point for travellers heading into the highlands of southwestern Uganda.
