About Soroti Airport
Soroti Airport is a small civil airfield serving Soroti and the wider Teso sub-region of eastern Uganda. It was established as a facility of the East African Community in the early 1970s and has long been associated with aviation training.
The airport was originally built as a training school where British Overseas Airways Corporation pilots practised tropical flying techniques. Today it is home to the East African Civil Aviation Academy, also known as Soroti Flying School, which trains pilots from Uganda and the wider East African region.
Located about 3 km from Soroti town and roughly 290 km northeast of Kampala, the airport has a single asphalt runway measuring 1,860 metres. It handles ad hoc domestic flights and is primarily used for flight training.
Ground access to the airfield is available by public transport, taxi or private vehicle, with onward connections to Soroti town and other parts of the region. Basic terminal services, air navigation aids, fire and rescue, and security support are available for passengers and operators.
