About Arua Airport
Arua Airport is the main airport serving Arua city and the West Nile region of northwestern Uganda. It is currently Uganda's second busiest airport after Entebbe and serves as a strategic gateway close to the borders with South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The airport opened in the late 1950s and is owned and operated by the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority. It mainly handles scheduled domestic flights between Arua and Entebbe, together with private charter, United Nations and Mission Aviation Fellowship operations, from a single compact passenger terminal.
Located about 4 km from Arua city centre and roughly 450 km northwest of Kampala, the airport is reached by taxis, private transfers, rental cars and road links to surrounding towns. A major upgrade has been approved to develop the facility into an international-standard airport with a paved runway and a larger passenger terminal.
For travellers, Arua Airport offers a compact and convenient arrival point with basic passenger facilities, making it a practical entry to Arua city, the West Nile region and nearby tourism and cross-border destinations.
