About Kaohsiung International Airport
Kaohsiung International Airport serves Kaohsiung and southern Taiwan, functioning as a key hub for domestic routes and regional international flights. It is also known locally as Xiaogang Airport because of its location in Siaogang District.
The airport opened as a civil airport in 1965 on the site of a former military airfield. Its modern International Terminal opened in 1997 and handles international and cross-strait flights, while the older Domestic Terminal serves domestic services within Taiwan.
Located about 8 km south of central Kaohsiung, the airport is directly linked to the city by the Kaohsiung MRT Red Line. Station R4 sits next to the terminals, with exits leading to both the domestic and international buildings, and taxis, buses, and private transfers are also available.
The compact layout keeps walking distances short, and passengers can use restaurants, convenience stores, duty-free shopping, lounges, free Wi-Fi, charging points, and an observation deck.
