About İstanbul Atatürk Airport
Istanbul Atatürk Airport is located in Yeşilköy on the European side of Istanbul, near the Sea of Marmara. It opened as an airfield in 1912 and served for decades as Istanbul's principal international gateway before commercial passenger flights transferred to Istanbul Airport in April 2019.
The airport now focuses on private, business, and general aviation, together with government and state flights. Its general aviation terminal handles private jet passengers with customs, immigration, and quarantine facilities, while cargo operations were also relocated to the new Istanbul Airport by early 2022.
Situated approximately 24 km from central Istanbul, Atatürk Airport benefits from road connections to Bakırköy, the historic peninsula, and other parts of the city, making onward travel relatively straightforward.
With handling services, maintenance and hangar options, and nearby hotels and dining, the airport remains a practical entry point for business and general aviation travelers visiting Istanbul.
