About Istanbul Airport
Istanbul Airport is the main international airport serving Istanbul and the surrounding Marmara region. Officially opened in October 2018, it took over commercial passenger traffic from the former Atatürk Airport in April 2019 and now serves as the city's primary gateway for domestic and international travel.
Located in the Arnavutköy district on the European side of Istanbul, the airport is around 40 km from the historic Sultanahmet area and central districts such as Taksim. Its single main terminal brings domestic and international operations together under one roof, with dedicated areas for check-in, departures, arrivals and passenger services.
The airport is connected to the city by the M11 metro line, Havaist airport buses, municipal buses, taxis, private transfers, car rental and road links, making it possible to continue to districts on both the European and Asian sides of Istanbul.
With extensive shopping, dining, lounge and passenger facilities, Istanbul Airport functions as a major hub for connecting flights and a key gateway for visitors arriving in Türkiye's largest city.
