Ganja International Airport is the main airport serving Ganja, Azerbaijan's second-largest city, and functions as the key air gateway for the country's western region. The airport has a Soviet-era history and opened in 1951, when it was used by the Soviet Air Force. It received international airport status in 1996, and a major modernization programme completed in 2006 delivered a new terminal complex and a 3,300-metre runway capable of accommodating larger aircraft.
Located about 10 km from Ganja city centre, the airport is reached mainly by taxi, pre-arranged private transfer or private vehicle. The single terminal keeps walking distances short and brings check-in, arrivals and departures together under one roof.
