About Cengiz Topel Airport
Cengiz Topel Airport is the main airport serving Kocaeli, İzmit and the wider eastern Marmara region of Turkey. Opened as a military airfield in 1976, it began serving civilian passengers in 2011, when its passenger terminal came into use.
The airport is located in the Kartepe district, about 15 km from İzmit city centre and roughly 30 km from Adapazarı. It provides a convenient arrival point for travellers heading to Kartepe, Sapanca, İzmit and the industrial and business areas of Kocaeli.
The compact terminal building covers about 2,100 square metres and houses check-in, security, arrivals and basic passenger facilities in one place. As a joint civil-military airport, operations focus mainly on domestic flights, with shared facilities prepared for international traffic when needed.
Ground access is provided by municipal buses, taxis, private transfers, car rental and road connections to the D-100 and nearby highways, making onward travel to İzmit and surrounding towns relatively straightforward.
