About Basra International Airport
Basra International Airport is the main international airport serving Basra and southern Iraq. Developed in the 1980s as a gateway to Iraq's only seaport, the airport was renovated and returned to regular commercial service in the 2000s.
Located about 12 to 15 km west of central Basra, the airport connects the city with regional hubs such as Istanbul, Dubai, Doha, Amman and Cairo, as well as domestic routes to Baghdad and Erbil. A single passenger terminal handles all domestic and international flights.
Road transport links the airport to Basra city centre, the Shatt al-Arab waterfront and surrounding areas through taxis, private transfers, chauffeur services and rental cars; there is no rail connection from the airport.
