Mosul International Airport (OSM)

Mosul International Airport serves the city of Mosul, the capital of Nineveh Governorate in northern Iraq, and acts as an important gateway for the wider region. Originally established as a British military airbase in the 1920s, it became a civilian airport in the 1990s, later served as a military base, and resumed passenger flights in December 2007 before the city fell to ISIS in 2014.

The airport was badly damaged during the conflict and retaken in February 2017. Reconstruction began in August 2022 and included a rebuilt main terminal, new baggage conveyor systems, a VIP lounge, modern radar systems and an extended 3,000-metre runway. A formal reopening ceremony was held in July 2025, and domestic flights resumed in November 2025 with Iraqi Airways services to Baghdad.

Located a short distance from central Mosul, the airport is connected to the city by road, with taxis and private transfers providing onward travel options. The airport is positioned to support domestic connections, with international routes planned as operations expand.

The reconstructed facility is designed to handle around 630,000 passengers and 30,000 tons of cargo per year, supporting economic recovery and travel across Nineveh and northern Iraq.
