About Al Ghaydah International Airport
Al Ghaydah International Airport is a small international airport serving Al Ghaydah, the capital of Al Mahrah Governorate in eastern Yemen. It is located about 2 km southwest of the city centre and acts as a regional gateway for the eastern part of the country, close to the border with Oman.
The airport has a single asphalt runway of 2,700 metres and compact passenger facilities. It was rebuilt with Saudi support and completed in 2020, and commercial flights resumed in July 2023 when Yemen Airways launched a route from Aden and Riyan to Al Ghaydah after years of suspended services.
Because the airport sits close to the city, travel into Al Ghaydah is short by road, with taxis and local vehicles providing the main connections. The airport's location supports access to Al Mahrah's towns and the wider eastern region.
Passenger facilities include basic waiting areas and a VIP lounge added during renovation, while the airport's modest scale keeps arrivals and departures relatively straightforward for travelers.
