About Aden International Airport
Aden International Airport is the main international airport serving Aden and southern Yemen, and the country's second-largest airport after Sana'a International Airport. The site began as the Royal Air Force station RAF Khormaksar in 1917, and a new passenger terminal was opened in 1985.
Located about 6 km from central Aden in the Khormaksar district, the airport handles domestic and international flights and supports both civil and military operations. A single terminal building processes arrivals and departures, supported by a 3,100-metre runway.
Onward travel from the airport is mainly by taxi, private transfer, chauffeur service or rental car, since scheduled public transport is limited. Road links connect the terminal to central Aden and the surrounding coastal areas.
Facilities are compact, with a duty-free shop, small restaurants and cafés, a currency exchange desk and passenger waiting areas. Since 2020, a rehabilitation and upgrade programme supported by the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen has been improving the runway, terminals, navigation and safety systems to enhance the passenger experience.
