About Zhongwei Shapotou Airport
Zhongwei Shapotou Airport is the main airport serving Zhongwei, a city in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region in north-central China. It opened on 26 December 2008 as Zhongwei Xiangshan Airport and was renamed in 2012 to highlight the nearby Shapotou Desert Scenic Area.
Located around 9 kilometres northwest of central Zhongwei, the airport functions as a small domestic gateway. It connects the city with destinations such as Beijing, Shanghai, Xi'an, Chongqing, Urumqi and Yinchuan through a single passenger terminal.
The terminal brings check-in, security, arrivals, dining and waiting areas together in one compact building, keeping the travel process straightforward for regional passengers. Onward transport includes the free City Bus Line 7 and taxis, which take roughly 20 minutes to reach the city centre.
The Shapotou Desert Scenic Area lies about 15 kilometres from the airport, making ZHY a practical starting point for visitors heading to the dunes, Yellow River attractions and desert resorts of the region.
