About Ningxia
Yinchuan is the capital of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region in northwest China, often called the Phoenix City. Set on the Yellow River plain against the eastern edge of the Helan Mountains, it blends Hui Muslim culture, Han Chinese traditions and a dry, high-plateau landscape with lakes and wetlands around the city.
The city's history reaches back to the Western Xia kingdom, and its legacy survives at the Western Xia Imperial Tombs, Shuidonggou and the rock carvings of the Helan Mountains. Landmarks such as the Nanguan Mosque, Chengtian Temple Pagoda and Ningxia Museum show the region's layered religious and cultural heritage.
Yinchuan is also the gateway to Ningxia's wider sights, from the shifting sands and Yellow River scenery at Shapotou to the vineyards along the Helan Mountain East Foothills. Local life centres on Muslim quarter eateries, goji berry markets and the lakes that have earned the area a reputation as a city of lakes.
As Ningxia's political and economic hub, Yinchuan supports energy, agriculture, wine and logistics industries and a growing events calendar. Its food scene, built around hand-grasped lamb, eight-treasure tea and local wines, gives both leisure and business travellers a distinctive regional experience.
