About Zaporizhzhia International Airport
Zaporizhzhia International Airport is the main air gateway for the city of Zaporizhzhia and the surrounding region in southeastern Ukraine. Its current single passenger terminal opened in October 2020, replacing an older terminal building that dated to the 1960s, and was designed to handle both domestic and international flights.
The airport was established in 1943 and began regular civil aviation flights in 1945. Over the years it developed into an important connection point for southeastern Ukraine, with regular services operated by carriers such as Ukraine International Airlines, Motor Sich, Turkish Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, Wizz Air, Pegasus Airlines and SkyUp.
Located on the eastern outskirts of Zaporizhzhia, roughly 13–15 kilometres from the city centre, the airport is normally reached by road, with taxi, private transfer, chauffeur and car rental options offering typical journey times of around 25–30 minutes depending on traffic.
Civil flights from Zaporizhzhia have been suspended since February 2022 following the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and the airport terminal was damaged by a missile attack in May 2024.
