About Wuhan Hannan Municipal Airport
Wuhan Hannan Municipal Airport is a general aviation airport serving Wuhan and the surrounding Hubei region. It began operations in October 2017 and is located in Hannan District, approximately 41 km from central Wuhan. The airport is known as the largest general aviation facility in China, covering about 0.6 square kilometres with a 1,600-metre runway.
The airport supports a range of general aviation activities including emergency rescue, business charter flights, aerial inspection, and skydiving. It was upgraded to an A1-class general aviation airport in 2023 and has developed into a base for the local low-altitude economy, with several general aviation operators based at the facility.
Since October 2024, the airport has also operated short-haul regional passenger routes to nearby cities such as Shiyan and Jingzhou, strengthening its role as a regional gateway. Its single terminal handles general aviation and regional passenger services on a smaller scale than Wuhan Tianhe International Airport, the city's main commercial airport.
The airport is accessible by road and is served by Wuhan Metro Line 16 via Hannan General Airport Station, which opened in December 2022. Taxis and private vehicles provide onward connections to central Wuhan and destinations across the Hannan area.
